| Making Wheels Easy #1 |
MAKING WHEELS EASY is a publication designed and published with the average
to serious wood worker in mind. It does not require the need for special tools or any
steaming or bending of the wood to cut out and assemble these wheels. Actually the
entire wheel can be cut with one woodworking tool - a band saw. All of the special
jigs detailed in this book are designed to be used with a band saw using a 3/8 inch and
a 1/4 inch blade. Other saws capable of cutting angles and curves could be used to
make the wheel parts by following the instructions and patterns included, however a
band saw makes the project much easier.
The wheels were designed from several old wheels found on wagons made by the
wheel craftsmen of past years. Because the projects using these wheels were not
meant to hitch horses to them and start traveling across country several areas of the
wheel were redesigned to make them easier to make but still maintain the original
appearance. As an example you do not have to steam or bend the rims of these
wheels. The rim pieces are cut out using a band saw and they still maintain grain
strength and natural appearance. Nor do you need a lathe to make the hub. It is built
up using several laminations.
MAKING WHEELS EASY #1 is a step-by-step fully illustrated book for making 16",
18", 20" and 22" wheels. These wheels can be used for center pieces, towel rod units,
desk lamps, etc. They also go with our other projects such as the "LiL
BUCKBOARD", "HAY RACK", "WHEEL BARROW" etc.

Making Wheels Easy #2 is an extension of "Making Wheels Easy #1". This book
contains all the drawings for 24" through 36" wheels in 2" increments. And all of the
wheels can be made with 10, 12, 14 or 15 spokes. These are light carriage style
wheels. For heavier wheels check the book "Working Wagon Wheels".
This book has 32 full sized drawings with all of the dimensions necessary. A full page
chart gives you all of the information needed to make all of the wheels using "Making
Wheels Easy #1 for the procedures. You do need "Making Wheels Easy #1 to go
with this book.
